EDexpo Charts New Course for Future

EDmarket Chairman of the Board Mark CarlsonI am pleased to share some information regarding the future of EDexpo. After careful review and consideration, the EDmarket Executive Committee voted unanimously to not hold EDexpo 2016 in Houston with CAMEX and NAMTA, and instead will design EDexpo to respond to the changing industry environment.

Your elected leaders gathered feedback in Atlanta, reviewed show survey results from over 200 participants, and heard recommendations from leaders on the Retail Store Council, Suppliers Council and EDexpo Planning Committee that all pointed to a consensus that the industry will be better served by a stand-alone event that keeps our community of dealers, suppliers, and independent manufacturers’ representatives together in one location.

  • We listened to our membership, and reacted with a swift decision to chart our own course with a more intimate event to bring the whole industry together under one roof to see new products, learn industry trends and provide strong networking. Our 100th anniversary is a significant milestone, and we recognize the importance of being responsive to the needs of the community we serve.

We would also like to thank our partners, the National Association of College Stores and the International Art Materials Association, for working with us and the city of Houston to prevent a negative financial outcome for EDmarket and all involved. We wish them the best in their co-location and will miss their very professional staff and exciting exhibits.

The EDexpo Planning Committee, Suppliers Council, and Executive Committee will be meeting in April to agree on a format that they are willing to financially support and that will meet the needs of the dealer community. Please make sure to contact these industry volunteers with your best ideas. Thank you to the 90 exhibitors who have signed up onsite to participate in 2016—you will be given the very first opportunity to participate in this new industry event. As soon as actions can be taken on the decisions made in April, an announcement will be made to our industry members and partners.

With so many good ideas being shared with your leadership, we are confident that we can plan and execute an event for the education channel that is a “can’t miss” event for both dealers and vendors. Thank you so much for your continued passion, loyalty, and feedback toward EDexpo. Stay tuned for exciting details to come!
